The
14th edition of the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) was held on
the 14th of February 2015 at the 7 Arts theatre in Harare. The
NAMA ran with the theme: PROUD OF ZIMBABWE.” The award show was hosted
by comedian cum socialite Babongile Sikhonjwa, Radio personality Patience Musa and South African based actor Leeroy Gapol. As usual the comedian
Sikhonjwe did not disappoint the crowd as he was in his ever “joky” mood and he
was joined by Leeroy Gopal. The two seemed to enjoy the stage and took the
spotlight from the NAMA function itself. Sikhonjwa and Gopal took to the stage
and began dancing. Who would really think Sikhonjwa was hospitalised for just
last year as he was dancing to a track “Unconquerable” and Gopal doing the
“Bhatsi” dance. Gopal
seemed to have been enjoying the stage than all the other hosts, as he tried
to do a poetry in Ndebele, but him being a comedian in the making just made the guests
The guests were chauffeur driven in Limousines and it was an exciting event that was blessed with downpours of rain. It saw a number of guests walking down the red carpet dressed in the valentine’s colours, red, white and black.
One
of the nominated personals Bathabile Dlamini, a student at the National
University of science and Technology (NUST), Second in the department of
Journalism and Media studies. She walked down the red carpet in a LBD, fit for
the event. The girl from KoNthuthu walked away with the award for the best actress in theatre and had featured in the play Umbiko kaMadlenya. To make the event
more interesting the Best comedian –Clive Chigubhu took to the stage and showed
the people why he won the award.
No
doubt the NAMA was nice.......
